Future wars in 21st century will be fought in cyber space. Are the countries prepared for it?

Are you a patriot and wished to join the defense force of India? Well, being an IT professional, you may not be far off from receiving a param veer chakra.  In the past, countries fought with might. The next generation super power was chosen on grounds of economic prosperity. The future super power is the one which stands a step ahead than others in their technological prowess.

After the recent Cyber attacks that have targeted the Lockheed Martin, Google, Sony, Nintendo’s database, and the US Government and Military Websites and Canadian government’s Websites the reality of how the modern wars are fought is changed. NATO has been dragged into a new battlefield that it was aware of, but hardly imagined that such an era would arrive so soon. Cyber war was declared as China hunts for the West’s intelligence secrets. Urgent warnings have been circulated throughout NATO and the European Union for secret intelligence material to be protected from a recent surge in cyber war attacks originating in China. India faces similar threats from Pakistan and China.

Our dependence on cyber space for communication and economic transactions is irreversible.  Now we have no option other than sharpen our knives (skills) and be prepared for this war. In this context a new branch of study came up known as ‘cyber security’. Ethical Hacking is encouraged as part of this study, to enable construction and upgradation of existing cyber security systems. The most important part of Defense spending of any country, needs to be focused on recruiting the highly gifted Cyber Security and Cyber Defense experts who are able to immediately identify each single possible threat through their ingenuity, and spontaneously develop countermeasures for it, both in terms of defense and offence.

We welcome our readers to August edition of our SWENEWS-Newsletter bearing the theme ‘Hacking’. We present to you the basics of hacking, career prospects, information about hacking societies and two articles on ‘SQL Injection techniques’ for hacking websites. I hope our efforts to bring up this edition will encourage the readers to join the band of future researchers, working in the field of cyber security. In this context we are also conducting a programming contest on 12th August, where participants will have a glimpse of cryptology.

Do not forget to browse through the latest happening in the field of Gaming and Gadgets. Check for events conducted in our school, in the events link.

Look forward for many more interesting improvements to this Newsletter portal...
